The proposal for a new salary structure for MPO teachers has come up for discussion. According to the proposal, a demand has been made to set the minimum salary at 30 thousand and the maximum salary at 1 lakh 56 thousand taka. The MPO Nationalization Alliance raised this proposal in an exchange of views with the Pay Commission. The organization said that MPO teachers have been facing discrimination for a long time, so it is important to align their salaries with the government scale.

The proposal proposes a grade-based salary structure of 1 lakh 56 thousand taka for grade-1, 1 lakh 40 thousand for grade-2, 1 lakh 25 thousand for grade-3 and 30 thousand taka in stages up to grade-14. Not only that, they have raised a total of 10 demands. These include setting the starting salary of MPO-affiliated teachers at grade 9, providing housing allowance at a rate of 40 to 70 percent like government employees, setting festival and Baisakhi allowances at the same amount as the basic salary, repealing the B.Ed mandatory law, and abolishing the committee system of educational institutions.

In addition, demands have been made for payment of retirement fund and welfare trust funds within six months of retirement, ration benefits for teachers and employees, fatigue and entertainment allowance, and nationalization of MPO-affiliated educational institutions.

Principal Main Uddin of the MPO-affiliated Education Nationalization Aspiring Alliance, Principal Delwar Hossain Azizi, Matiur Rahman, Habibullah Raju, Shanto Islam, Principal Alauddin, Mohammad Nurul Amin Helali, Zahirul Islam, Tofail Sarkar, Rabiul Islam, Russell Mandal, and Mahbub Alam, among others, were present at the meeting.

They said that if teachers are not paid fairly, both motivation and quality in the education system will suffer. They therefore urged the government to take swift action and consider their proposal.
