Abul Kalam Azad was hit by a bearing pad falling from above while walking under the metrorail in the capital's Farmgate area, which led to his death. The High Court has issued a rule to award Tk 2 crore compensation to his family in this incident.
On Wednesday (October 29), a High Court bench comprising Justice Fahmida Quader and Justice Asif Hasan ordered the formation of an expert committee within 30 days to investigate the safety measures and the cause of the accident and submit a report.
Earlier, Barrister Abdullah Al Mamun filed a writ petition in the High Court. The petition sought an order to form an expert committee to examine the quality of the bearing pads of the metrorail and all flyovers in the country.
On the day of the accident, Abul Kalam Azad was rushed to the hospital, but the doctor declared him dead. This incident has raised new questions about the responsibility and safety standards of the metrorail and the authorities concerned.
