Eminent photographer Shahidul Alam has been taken from Israel to Turkey. This news was confirmed by Shafiqul Alam, Press Secretary of the Office of the Chief Advisor. Professor Dr. Muhammad Yunus thanked Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan for this incident.
This information was given in a status given on the social media Facebook on Friday (October 10). According to information provided by Flight Tracker, the plane carrying Shahidul Alam has already landed in the Turkish capital Istanbul.
Earlier, the verified Facebook page of the chief advisor of the interim government posted on Friday morning, "Efforts are underway to release photographer Shahidul Alam, who is in Israeli prison, with the help of Turkey." The post said that Turkish authorities hope that Shahidul Alam will be able to be brought to Ankara by a special plane today, although 100 percent assurances could not be given. Bangladesh's ambassador to Ankara, Amanul Haque, gave this information on Thursday night.
The post also said that after Shahidul Alam was illegally detained by Israeli authorities, Bangladesh embassies in Jordan, Egypt and Turkey were asked to take immediate action and contact the foreign ministries of the respective countries. Currently, the embassies are maintaining round-the-clock contact with local authorities regarding Shahidul Alam's release.
It is worth noting that Shahidul Alam was previously detained by Israeli forces from a Gaza-bound conscience ship. At that time, Shahidul Alam himself confirmed this information in a video message.
