Sudden death of two students on the same day at Chittagong University

The death of two students on the same day at Chittagong University (CU) has cast a shadow of mourning across the university. On Friday (October 3), the news of the deaths of former student of the Department of Public Administration and former president of the CU Abriti Mancha Sohan Al Mafi and student of the Department of Banking and Insurance Debapriya Supta has stunned the university community.

Sohan Al Mafi, a student of the Department of Public Administration for the 2016-17 academic year, was currently working in a private development organization in Dhaka. On Thursday (October 2) morning, he went to the White Peak Station Resort located in the Minjhiri Sada Pathar area of ​​Phansiakhali Union in Lamar, Bandarban with his friend Shakil. While bathing in the Matamuhuri River near the resort in the afternoon, he was swept away by a strong current. The next day, Friday, at 11 am, the fire service recovered his body and handed it over to his family.

On the other hand, Debapriya Supta, a student of the Banking and Insurance Department of the 2020-21 academic year, fell ill while visiting various houses in Manikganj during the Durga Puja holidays. When he felt unwell on Thursday evening, he was first taken to Manikganj District Sadar Hospital. Later, when his condition deteriorated, he was transferred to Dhaka Medical College Hospital on Friday morning, where he died while undergoing treatment. Initially, the department chairman Md. Abu Bakkar Siddique expressed the fear that his death was due to food poisoning.

Chittagong University Proctor Professor Dr. Hossain Shahid Sarwardy expressed deep grief over the deaths of the two students on the same day. He said, “Today we lost two of our students. The university family is deeply saddened.
