Bangladesh will export 1,200 tons of hilsa fish to India this year on the occasion of the upcoming Durga Puja. The Ministry of Commerce has issued an order in this regard today, Monday. The policy decision to export hilsa to India is taken subject to conditions.

Bangladesh exports hilsa every year on the occasion of Durga Puja. The demand for Bangladeshi hilsa is high, especially in West Bengal.

The order of the Ministry of Commerce says that interested exporters can apply in hard copy during office hours on September 11. Along with the application, the updated trade license, ERC, income tax certificate, VAT certificate, sales contract, license of the Department of Fisheries and other relevant documents must be submitted.

The order of the Ministry of Commerce also says that the government has set the minimum export price of hilsa at 12.5 US dollars per kg. Those who have already applied without invitation will also have to submit a new application.

Half the Hilsa export allowed compared to last time
Last year, on the occasion of Durga Puja, the Ministry of Commerce had initially decided to allow the export of 3,000 tons of Hilsa to India. It withdrew from this decision and finally allowed the export of 2,420 tons of Hilsa. This time, half of this Hilsa export was allowed. Last time, a total of 49 companies were allowed.

There are also conditions that Hilsa should not be exported more than the permitted amount, that the permission should not be transferred in any way, and that it should not be exported under subcontract without an approved exporter. It has been said that the government can stop the export at any time. These conditions always exist.
