The state has alleged that content creator Towhid Afridi used to record nude videos of students participating in the anti-discrimination movement. State's lawyer Advocate Nayan made this claim during the hearing at the Dhaka Chief Metropolitan Magistrate's Court on Monday (August 25). After the hearing, the court granted Towhid Afridi a 5-day remand.

State's lawyer Nayan told reporters in the courtroom, "Towhid Afridi is a YouTuber and media terrorist. He used to incite against the student community using YouTube and Facebook platforms. He even used to take off the clothes of the students participating in the movement and record videos and keep them hostage."

On Monday afternoon, CID Police Inspector and Investigation Officer of the case, Khan Md. Erfan, applied for Towhid Afridi's 7-day remand in the court. After hearing both sides, the court granted a 5-day remand.

On the other hand, on behalf of the accused, his lawyer Khairul Islam applied for the remand to be cancelled and bail to be granted. He told the court, “According to the plaintiff’s allegations, the deceased Asadul Haque was shot dead by the police. Towhid Afridi has no involvement in the case. Even the plaintiff himself said in an affidavit that his name was included due to a mistake in information.”

Khairul Islam further claimed that Towhid Afridi is seriously ill. He is suffering from liver and cancer diseases. According to the law, a sick person cannot be remanded.

On Sunday night, the CID arrested Towhid Afridi from Barisal. Earlier, on August 17, his father and MyTV chairman Nasir Uddin Sathi was arrested from Gulshan in the capital. He is currently in jail.

According to the case statement, on August 5, 2023, Md. Asadul Haque Babu was shot and killed during an anti-discrimination movement in Jatrabari. His father Joynal Abedin filed a murder case with Jatrabari Police Station on August 30 of that year. 25 people, including former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, were named as accused in the case. Towhid Afridi is accused number 11 and his father Nasir Uddin Sathi is accused number 22.
