Chief Advisor Professor Muhammad Yunus has expressed deep shock and sorrow over the crash of a Bangladesh Air Force training plane at the Milestone School and College campus in the capital's Uttara area of Diabari.
In a condolence message sent from the Chief Advisor's press wing on Monday afternoon, he said, "This loss is irreparable for those who were injured in this accident, including the students, guardians, teachers, and staff of the Air Force and Milestone School and College. This is a moment of deep sorrow for the nation."
He also said, "I wish the injured a speedy recovery and have instructed all authorities, including the hospitals concerned, to deal with the situation with utmost importance."
In the condolence message, the Chief Advisor also said that the government will take all necessary measures to investigate the cause of the accident. At the same time, all-out steps will be taken by the government to ensure assistance to the victims.
The fire service has confirmed that at least one person has died in the incident. Immediately after the incident, members of the fire service, police, and air force jointly started rescue operations. The injured are being taken out of the collapsed building one by one. They are being rushed to various hospitals in the capital.
According to the latest information, 20 people have been admitted to the National Institute of Burn and Plastic Surgery. Most of the burnt victims are school students. The doctors in charge of the hospital said that the condition of some of them is critical.
Rescue operations are still underway at the scene. Law enforcement agencies have surrounded the area. There is extreme anxiety among the students and their parents. Eyewitnesses say, “Suddenly, I heard a sound and saw fire and smoke, everyone was screaming. After a while, some of the burnt people were taken out.”
