A cocktail explosion occurred at a tree fair held next to Jatrabari Park in the capital. A nursery employee named Jewel (40) was seriously injured in it. The incident took place around 12 midnight on Friday (May 23). People at the fair ran in all directions at the sound of the explosion. Later, Jewel was rescued in a critical condition and admitted to the emergency department of Dhaka Medical College Hospital.
The police camp in-charge of DMCH Hospital said that the injured Jewel has splinter injuries in various parts of his body. His condition is serious.
Confirming the matter, the officer-in-charge (OC) of Jatrabari Police Station said, "An investigation has been launched to find out the cause of the incident. CCTV footage of the surroundings has been collected. No one has been arrested so far."
Meanwhile, the sudden explosion spread panic among traders and visitors at the fair. Many have expressed anger over the lack of security. They demanded that security measures be strengthened at the fair and surrounding areas.
Police are continuing their investigation to determine the real cause of the explosion and those responsible.
