Awami League may be banned: Asif Nazrul

Professor Dr. Asif Nazrul, the interim government's legal, judicial and parliamentary affairs advisor, has hinted at the possibility that the Awami League or any of its affiliates may be banned. He said that the necessary laws and provisions exist in the country to take such a decision.

Professor Asif Nazrul said, "There has been a strong demand in society to ban the Awami League. This demand has become stronger in the light of the party's role in the recent mass uprising, lack of guilt in the genocide, despicable attacks on students and the public, and the inflammatory statements of the fugitive Sheikh Hasina."

He also said that necessary measures will be taken after assessing whether the activities of the Awami League or any of its affiliates fall under the level of anti-state and human rights violations.

Meanwhile, political heat has been building around the sudden departure of Md. Abdul Hamid, who served as the President for two terms during the Awami League government. He left for Thailand on a Thai Airways flight on Wednesday night. Leaders of the new political party Jatiya Nagorik Party (NCP) have expressed their anger on social media over this news. They have strongly criticized the government.

Along with criticizing the government, NCP leaders have demanded justice for the Awami League, saying that they must be held accountable for all their past anti-people and anti-human activities. Various political and social organizations are also holding protest programs on this issue.

In this context, Mahfuz Alam, information advisor to the interim government, wrote in a Facebook post in the evening, "The law will be amended to ensure justice for the Awami League as a party. The fascist Awami League will be tried. The process of forming 'Tribunal-2' has begun to complete the trial quickly."

Later that night, a notification was issued to form 'Tribunal-2', which has further complicated the current political situation.

In the context of this recent situation, tensions in the country's political arena have reached a peak, where the possibility of the Awami League being banned could take a historic turn.
