‘July Unity’ debuts to demand Awami League ban

‘July Unity’, a united platform comprising 35 social and political organizations, has debuted to demand the banning of the Awami League, the trial of the July massacre, and compensation and rehabilitation of the martyrs and injured. The formal announcement of this alliance was held in front of the Madhur Canteen of Dhaka University at 5 pm on Tuesday.
In their speeches, the speakers said that a new chapter began in the history of Bangladesh in July 2024, when the general public, including students, workers, teachers, doctors, took to the streets in a large people’s movement demanding the fall of the Awami League government. More than two thousand people died in this mass uprising and about 31 thousand people were injured or maimed. This attack carried out by state forces and party cadres has been internationally recognized as ‘genocide’.
However, even after eight months, the trial process for the genocide is still uncertain. The most worrying thing is that some political and non-governmental circles are trying to rehabilitate the Awami League, which, the speakers commented, is an extreme insult to the sacrifices of the martyred, injured and disabled people and amounts to destroying the dream of restoring democracy in the country.
In addition, the speakers also said that there is extreme concern about the lives and safety of the revolutionaries who participated in the July Revolution. The fascist Awami League and their allies are spreading various types of propaganda against the revolutionaries. They mentioned that this situation is very serious and dangerous.
Realizing this reality, the 'July Unity' was announced by a combination of social, cultural and political organizations of different ideologies, which will lead a united movement to maintain resistance against the fascist Awami League.
The main demands of 'July Unity' are:
Ensure constitutional security of the revolutionaries who participated in the July Revolution
Declare a ban on all political activities of the fascist Awami League
Speed up the trial process for the 2024 genocide, Shapla tragedy, Peelkhana massacre, disappearances, murder, corruption and state crimes of the past 15 and a half years
Keeping this goal in mind, 'July Unity' will continue the movement with the support of all conscious citizens and organizations. Their next program: Human chain demanding the security of the revolutionaries who participated in the July Revolution and the ban on Awami League politics.
