Protesting students have called for class boycott in all educational institutions of the country today, demanding the resignation of Khulna University of Engineering and Technology (KUET) Vice-Chancellor Professor Mohammad Machud.
Musaddiq Ali Ibn Mohammad, a student of the Bangla Department of Dhaka University, made this announcement at 12:15 am on Tuesday from the 'Shahbagh Blockade' program. More than three hundred students from various educational institutions in the capital, including BUET, Jagannath University (JUB), Chittagong University of Engineering and Technology (CUET), KUET, and Dhaka College, were present at the program.
Musaddiq Ali Ibn Mohammad said that no student in the country will go to class today. Schools, colleges, and universities—all educational institutions must show solidarity with KUET students by boycotting classes. Along with holding symbolic hunger strikes and sit-in programs, protest marches will be held in each campus. A protest rally will be held at Raju Sculpture at 3 pm for one-point demands.
Earlier, the protesting students blocked Shahbagh intersection at 10:30 pm. They made the streets rumble with slogans like ‘One two three four, Masud, you get out of bed’, ‘Slavery or freedom, freedom, freedom’, ‘My brother is on hunger strike, what is interim doing’, ‘Education and terror cannot go together’. After a continuous blockade of Shahbagh for an hour and 45 minutes, they left the place at 12:15 am after announcing their program.
Meanwhile, a group of leaders and activists of the Dhaka University branch of the Bangladesh Democratic Students’ Union are sitting on a hunger strike at the foot of the Raju statue of Dhaka University demanding the resignation of the KUET Vice-Chancellor. Their hunger strike is ongoing as of last news.
