A terrible fire broke out in the TNT Mandir Gate area of Karail slum in the capital. The fire broke out on Friday night. Upon receiving the information, 10 units of the fire service quickly reached the spot and brought the fire under control in about an hour and a half.
Duty officer of the fire service control room, Rakibul Hasan, told the media, "The fire has been brought under control, but smoke is still coming out in some places." No casualties have been reported in the incident so far.
Although the cause of the fire is not initially known, it is believed that the fire may have started from an electrical short circuit. Several houses in the slum have been completely burnt down in the fire, resulting in extreme suffering for the affected families.
Meanwhile, a car garage and sawmill adjacent to Taltola Market in Khilgaon in the capital also caught fire on the same night. The fire was brought under control there with the efforts of 10 units of the fire service. The fire burned several vehicles and there was a risk of explosion of the cylinders inside.
Fire service sources said that an investigation is underway to determine the root cause of the fire and the extent of the damage.
