BNP standing committee member Mirza Abbas has alleged that some political parties are delaying the elections by making contradictory statements to confuse the government. He said, ‘They are trying to delay the next national elections through this confusion.’
He made these comments at the inauguration of the Metropolitan South BNP membership renewal program at the BNP central office in Nayapaltan in the capital on Friday. Mirza Abbas also said, ‘Some political parties are delaying the elections by making misleading statements.’
He said to the interim government, ‘We want to tell this government, hold the elections by December, we are always ready for the elections.’
Mirza Abbas mentioned that different political parties are talking about the elections in different ways—sometimes they say they will not go to the elections, sometimes they say they will go to the elections if certain conditions are met, and sometimes they say they will go on other conditions.
He said, "BNP and our alliance went to the elections in 2008 due to such wrong decisions, as a result of which many famous people lost their lives. We do not want to make such mistakes again. One mistake can take the lives of millions of people."
At this time, Mirza Abbas addressed the government and said, "I am not saying the government, I am saying that different political parties are talking about the elections and creating an uncomfortable situation for the government."
Mirza Abbas and other BNP leaders were present at this prestigious event, chaired by Dhaka Metropolitan South BNP convener Rafiqul Islam Majnu and moderated by Member Secretary Tanvir Ahmed Robin.
