Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami has informed the Election Commission (EC) that it wants the national elections to be held after completing the urgent electoral reforms. The party's comment is that it is not in favor of holding the national elections without reforms. Jamaat Secretary General Mia Golam Parwar said this after a meeting with the EC at the Election Building in Agargaon in the capital on Thursday (February 13).
"No elections without reforms - no elections without reforms. We want the elections to be held after implementing the recommendations related to the election, especially the institutions related to the election process. However, we have not set any date."
He also said that the people's desire is for the local government elections to be held earlier. The Jamaat delegation has presented their recommendations to the Election Commission. Now it remains to be seen what action the commission takes on these recommendations.
