Regarding the increase in value-added tax (VAT) on services and goods, Finance Advisor Dr. Salehuddin Ahmed said that VAT has not been increased for anyone's prescription or dearness allowance. VAT has been increased with the aim of increasing revenue revenue.
He told reporters after the meeting of the Food Planning and Budgeting Committee on Wednesday.
The Finance Advisor said that VAT or tax has not been increased on essential goods and services. The products on which VAT has increased are not essential. At this time, he mentioned that Bangladesh has the lowest revenue revenue in the world.
Earlier yesterday, in response to journalists' questions about the increase in VAT at the Secretariat, the Finance Advisor said, "You will know after a few days why VAT and customs duties have been increased. However, VAT and taxes will be better coordinated in the next budget."
At that time, he expressed regret and said, "Is the level at which VAT has been increased such that the price of such products can increase? VAT has been reduced on medicines, mobile phones and fruit juices. But the price of milk has increased. It is not supposed to increase."
