The July Smriti Foundation, established to provide financial assistance to the martyrs and injured in the July-August uprising, is beset by various problems. Although the government is supposed to provide assistance to the families of the martyrs and the injured through this initiative, the suffering of those seeking services is increasing day by day. On-site inspection showed that many people are visiting the foundation's office day after day due to the long wait and numerous stages of verification process to receive aid.
The foundation's CEO Mir Mahbubur Rahman Snigdha said that the pace of work has slowed down due to the lack of skilled manpower. Many people are receiving money late because the verification process has many stages.
Md. Masum, a resident of Khilgaon, came to get financial assistance for 13-year-old street child Ali and found out what documents are required. The process of registering the name of the injured Ali has not been completed yet.
The injured are complaining that they are not getting any response even after calling the 16000 hotline. Many are not getting effective services even after visiting the office repeatedly.
It is important to ensure adequate manpower, speed of service, and simple procedures to reduce suffering in the services of the July Memorial Foundation. The government and the relevant authorities need to take urgent steps to alleviate the suffering of the families of the martyrs and the injured.
