Dr. Debapriya Bhattacharya, Honorary Fellow of the Center for Policy Dialogue and Head of the White Paper Preparation Committee, has warned that reform-minded people may lose patience if economic guidance and acceleration cannot be provided.
He said these things at the first session of the White Paper Preparation Committee 2024 Symposium organized at the Bangabandhu International Conference Center in Sher-e-Bangla Nagar in the capital on Saturday. The theme of the symposium was "White Paper and Beyond: Economic Management, Reforms and National Budget".
Dr. Debapriya said, "At this moment, it is important to ensure issues such as economic stability, growth, employment, poverty alleviation and social protection. Otherwise, there will be disappointment among people working on the acceleration of reforms. Many may even turn away from being in favor of balanced reforms due to economic discomfort and insecurity."
He further said that while administrative and institutional reforms are getting importance, economic management is not getting as much attention. Commenting on the current government's economic plan, he said, "Many people think that this government is working like the previous government in terms of economy and it does not have any independent economic manifesto."
Commerce Advisor Sheikh Bashiruddin, BIDA Executive Chairman Ashiq Chowdhury and other concerned persons were present in the session.
