The court has granted a 4-day remand to Sheikh Hasina's Private Industry and Investment Advisor Salman F Rahman and former State Minister for Information Technology Junaid Ahmed Palak in the murder attempt case in which a Dhaka College student was injured in a shooting during the movement.
Today, Wednesday, Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate MA Azharul Islam granted remand to Salman F Rahman and Junaid Ahmed Palak for questioning after hearing the application of the investigation officer.
New Market Police Station General Registration Officer SI Saiful Islam said that the two accused were produced in the court from the jail at around 9:30 am. The investigation officer of the case, Sub-Inspector Md. Omar Faruk, applied for a 7-day remand of the accused, but the accused's lawyer Farzana Yasmin Rakhi applied for cancellation of the remand and applied for bail. After the hearing, the court ordered the remand.
It has been alleged in this incident that students were peacefully marching in front of Dhaka College on July 16 as part of the anti-discrimination movement. At that time, leaders and activists of Awami League, Chhatra League and Jubo League opened fire and attacked the procession. In this, Dhaka College student Md. Shamim was seriously injured. He was injured in the eye and nose by a rubber bullet and received treatment in the hospital. On November 28, he filed an attempt to murder case with New Market Police Station.
The investigation into the incident is underway and two accused have been taken on remand to collect more information.
