Students of Jagannath University are observing a complete shutdown program for the third day, demanding three points, including handing over the construction work of the second campus to the army.
All academic and administrative activities of the university have been closed since Wednesday morning. Students have been stationed in front of the administrative building since morning to learn the decision of the steering committee meeting of the Ministry of Education.
Although the hunger strike that lasted for about 35 hours last Monday was withdrawn on the assurance of the Education Minister, the students announced that they would continue the shutdown program until their demands are met. The main gate of the university was locked on Monday morning. At the same time, other buildings including the Shaheed Sajid Academic Building were also locked.
Students from various departments of the university, such as Bengali, History, Political Science, CSE, Pharmacy, Mass Communication and Journalism, have expressed solidarity with this shutdown.
AKM Rakib, on behalf of the protesting students, said, "It was said in the meeting of the Ministry of Education that the army will take over the work, but no written notice has come yet. The written notice may come by next Sunday. Until then, our shutdown will continue."
He also said that there will be no violence during the protest. The next decision will be taken only after receiving the written resolution.
It is worth noting that the students will announce their next program in accordance with the decision of the ministry at today's press conference.
