Khaleda Zia's appeal verdict on Wednesday!

The hearing of BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia's appeal against her 10-year sentence in the Zia Orphanage Trust corruption case has concluded. The Appellate Division headed by Chief Justice Dr. Syed Refat Ahmed will announce the verdict tomorrow.

The Appellate Division set this date after the hearing on Tuesday. It is worth noting that on November 11, 2024, the Appellate Division granted Khaleda Zia's leave to appeal and suspended her 10-year sentence. At the same time, the court ordered the submission of the appeal summary within two weeks.

On February 8, 2018, Judge Akhtaruzzaman of Dhaka Special Judge's Court-5 sentenced Khaleda Zia to 5 years in prison in the Orphanage Trust corruption case. In the same case, her son Tarique Rahman and five other accused were sentenced to 10 years in prison each and a fine of Tk 2.10 crore.

Later, on October 30, 2018, the High Court increased Khaleda Zia's sentence to 10 years. Khaleda Zia appealed against this verdict.

In this case, a three-member appeal bench led by Chief Justice Md. Ashfaqul Islam is preparing the verdict in the case. There is a lot of speculation surrounding this verdict in the country's political arena.
