A human chain was held in front of Dhaka's Raju Statue at 11 am on Sunday with a three-point demand, initiated by the BDR Kalyan Parishad, Dhaka District. The family members of the dismissed BDR members and members detained in prison were present.
Abu Hanif, the higher council member and media coordinator of the Public Rights Council, spoke at the human chain. He said, "After the Awami League government came to power in 2008, the BDR massacre was planned in 2009 with the help of India. The Awami League then tried to portray it as a BDR rebellion. In fact, it was a planned murder."
He also said, "Innocent BDR members must be released and those who were unfairly dismissed must be reinstated. Those truly responsible for that murder must be brought to justice through a proper investigation."
The human chain informed that the bail hearing of the imprisoned BDR members is scheduled for January 19. Abu Hanif warned, “If bail is not granted, the legal advisor will have to resign. In addition, the investigation commission formed into the BDR mutiny must work with transparency and repeal the controversial clauses.”
Participants in the human chain strongly urged the government to implement their demands.
