The students of the colleges have blocked the ScienceLab intersection demanding the establishment of a separate public university with the seven government colleges of the capital affiliated to the University of Dhaka.
On Tuesday (October 29) after 12 noon, the students took a protest march from Dhaka College and took a stand at Sciencelab intersection. As a result of their road blockade, traffic in the surrounding area is blocked.
Students participating in the movement say that they are protesting with the logical demand of establishing an independent public university. A reform commission has been formed from the Ministry of Education without taking any initiative to establish a university. We declined this commission. We want necessary steps to be taken to establish public universities as soon as possible. We are forced to take to the streets.
Earlier on September 22, in a press conference organized at Dhaka College, students highlighted the problems of seven colleges. After the same demand on September 25, education advisor Dr. Wahiduddin Mahmud, 29 September DU Vice-Chancellor Prof. Dr. Niaz Ahmad Khan and UGC Chairman Prof. Dr. Students gave memorandum to SMA Faiz. The same memorandum is also given to the principals of the colleges.
Then on October 22, seven college students blockaded Neelkhet and ScienceLab intersections in the capital. The blockade program runs from 12 noon to 3 pm. In the afternoon, the students gave a 24-hour ultimatum by demanding 3 points from the program at ScienceLab intersection. Along with that, the program as on that day was announced to be suspended. In this, the Ministry of Education formed a committee of 13 members to solve the academic and administrative problems of seven colleges.
