The university administration has shifted the students to teachers quarter 'Kapotaksh' in the old block of Khaleda Zia Hall of Islami University (EB) due to fear of electrical accident. The students of the academic year 2018-19 and 2019-20 of the old block were shifted to the first phase of the building on Monday (September 09) afternoon.
It is learned that on July 7 and 8 and September 2 and 4, an electrical short circuit fire broke out in the old block of the hall. Later, through the mediation of the leaders of the anti-discrimination student movement, the professor in charge of administrative and financial affairs of the university. The resident students of the hall met ABM Siddiqur Rahman Ashrafi. They raised 4 demands to solve the problem of the hall.
In this regard, the resident teacher of the hall. Ershadul Haque said, we have arranged accommodation for more than a hundred female students here. Ansar and nannies will be deployed round the clock for their security. When asked about their food, he said, food will be brought here for them every time from the dining hall. Hopefully they won't have any problems. If after that they feel a security crisis, then the coordination panel and we will arrange additional security.
Acting Chief Engineer of the University. K. M. Sharif Uddin said, we have tried to ensure the normal environment of the students. Almost all the rooms have electricity service. In all, about twenty five thousand rupees have been spent here. A preliminary estimate for the renovation of the old block of the hall may be as high as 48 lakhs.
Meanwhile, the professor in charge of administrative and financial affairs of the university. ABM Siddiqur Rahman Ashrafi said that the students were suffering from insecurity due to the electricity problem in the hall. Considering their safety, we quickly renovated the Kapotaksha building and brought them here. Full-time Ansar, security personnel and nannies will be stationed here. We are trying to solve the hall problem quickly. Hope the situation will return to normal soon.
Incidentally, on the evening of September 4, when a fire broke out in the old block of the hall due to a short circuit, panic spread throughout the hall. The authorities asked the students to stay in other places as it was dangerous to stay in the hall later. However, due to lack of accommodation facilities, the students stay at the risk of disconnecting the electricity connection.
