Major (retd) Hafiz Uddin Ahmad, a member of the BNP Standing Committee, has claimed that if there is a thorough investigation into the then BDR (now BGB) headquarters Pilkhana massacre on February 25, 2009, the death toll may increase.
He said these things at a press conference held at the BNP Chairperson's political office in Gulshan on Tuesday (September 3).
Major Hafiz said, a letter (letter) has been given by BNP to the chief adviser of the interim government demanding a re-investigation and trial of this murder. A delegation of 3 members led by our Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir sent this letter to the Chief Adviser on August 28, asking who was involved in the murder, whether there was any foreign intervention or not, and why this happened.
He further said, "We are very happy that within a very short period of time, the Home Affairs Adviser, with the consent of the Chief Adviser, has initiated a fresh investigation and retrial of this heinous murder." I thank the interim government for that.
The former army officer claimed that the killings of the BDR rebellion were to destroy the morale of the army. He said, this killing is the primary task of destroying the army.
He demanded the reinstatement of the army officers who were released after the BDR rebellion.
Major (retd) Hafeez claimed that former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina's actions after the BDR assassination were very mysterious. He said that his jumna is kept in a room next to the office so that the army does not go into any kind of action. There is no dialogue with them, they purposely wasted lives by not doing the operation at the critical moment which could have saved them.
He also said that those who committed the killings were initially a little panicked, fearing an army operation. But when the former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina entertained them in Yamuna and announced amnesty in a very short time. Never in the history of the world, a JCO was promoted to Major General and appointed as Director General of BDR forces. It was incredible action. A subedar was made a major general in no time.
Hafeez also said that the way the BDRs were treated made it clear that the killing was well-planned. This murder was done with the connivance of Sheikh Hasina and Awami League leaders.
He said that before the uprising, there was a meeting of top leaders of Awami League with BDR soldiers at the residence of Awami League ward councilor Torab Ali on February 22. Later we came to know that how this rebellion will be carried out, how the murder will be carried out, how the body will be lost is decided in this meeting.
The press conference was attended by BNP Standing Committee member Salahuddin Ahmed, Dr. AZM Zahid Hossain, Advisor to BNP Chairperson Ismail Zabiullah, former army officer Brigadier General Ahmad Tabrez Shams.
