94 percent of the country's longest under-construction Yamuna rail bridge over Yamuna river at Tangail has been completed. The railway bridge will be inaugurated in December only when the remaining 6 percent work is completed. After commissioning, at least 88 trains will be able to cross the bridge at high speed non-stop.
It has been seen on the ground that all the spans of this bridge under construction have been installed. The work on the Tangail Bhuyapur section of the bridge has been completed and the work on the western end of Sirajganj is also nearing completion. Apart from this, the work of modernization of Setu East and West stations is also in the final stage.
According to railway project sources, the construction of Yamuna railway bridge was initially estimated at 9 thousand 734 crore rupees. But later its term was extended for two years. It also increases the cost of the project. Later the cost increased to 16 thousand 780 crore 95 lakh 63 thousand taka. Out of this domestic financing is 27.60 percent. Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) has given a loan of 12 thousand 149 crores. Which is 72.40 percent of the project.
Yamuna Rail Bridge Project Director (PD) Al Fattah. Masudur Rahman said that about 94 percent of the work has been completed. Among the rest, there are some works on stations and platforms on the west side of the bridge, which are in progress. Besides, there is some leveling, limening and laying of tracks on the west side of the bridge. There is a possibility to inaugurate the bridge around December after completing some rules of train operation including commissioning after the works are completed.
