Why do tooth sensitivity and gum problems increase in cold weather?

In the cold weather of winter, many people experience tooth sensitivity and gum problems. In particular, toothaches, dry mouth, and enamel erosion are more common during this time. Many people do not drink enough water in winter, which reduces the natural secretion of saliva in the mouth and creates an environment for germs to attack.
Why do teeth become sensitive?
Toothache is a common problem when exposed to cold water, sweets, or food. This problem usually occurs when:
Tooth enamel is worn away
Gums recede and the roots of the teeth are exposed
There are small cracks in the teeth
Cold weather compresses the nerve of the tooth, which further increases the feeling of pain.
Things to do for dental care in winter:
Brush twice a day. Using a soft-bristled brush reduces enamel erosion. Brushing slowly for two minutes is enough.
If your teeth are sensitive, you can use sensitive or fluoride toothpaste. If necessary, the paste can be rubbed on the fingers for 1 minute.
If the toothache increases with cold water, rinse or gargle with lukewarm water.
It is important to keep the mouth and body hydrated by drinking enough water.
It is better to reduce sugar and eat winter fruits and vegetables with fiber.
Gargling with warm salt water several times a week reduces gum inflammation and bacteria.
While walking or running, you should breathe through your nose so that cold air does not hit your face directly.
Gum care is also important
Inflammation, swelling, or bleeding in the gums may increase during winter. Blood circulation slows down at low temperatures, affecting the health of the gums.
Use dental floss or interdental brushes along with brushing
You should see a dentist at least once a year
A general checkup before or during winter helps to quickly identify potential dental problems
Taking care of your teeth during winter can greatly reduce the chances of sensitivity and other problems.
