The court has granted a four-day remand to former commerce minister Tipu Munshi in the case of murder of a man named Sumon Shikder filed at the capital's Badda police station. The Chief Metropolitan Magistrate (CMM) court of Dhaka gave this order on Thursday afternoon.

Police and court-related sources say that Tipu Munshi, who was arrested in this case, was brought to court and requested to be remanded for 10 days. On the other hand, an application was filed opposing the remand from the accused. After hearing both sides, the court granted the four-day remand of former commerce minister Tipu Munshi.

Tipu Munshi was produced in the court after 5 pm today under heavy police guard. Later he was taken from the jail to the court. At that time, he had a police helmet on his head and a bulletproof jacket on his body. During the hearing, the BNP-supporting lawyers present in the court sought the punishment of Tipu Munshi.

In a small message sent from the RAB headquarters at around 2:30 pm yesterday, Tipu Munshi was informed about the arrest of Tipu Munshi from the Gulshan area of ​​the capital.

After the fall of the Awami League government on August 5 in the face of the student movement, former ministers, members of parliament and senior leaders of the Awami League went into hiding. Several of them have been arrested. All of them have been arrested in various cases filed in connection with the killing of students and mobs in clashes with law and order forces during the anti-discrimination student movement program. They are on remand in these cases.

After August 5, Tipu Munshi was also in hiding. Tipu Munshi is a former Member of Parliament from Rangpur-4 Constituency (Peergacha-Kaunia) who entered politics from a businessman in the garment sector. In 2018, he became a member of parliament for the third consecutive term from that seat. Tipu Munshi was given the responsibility of Commerce Minister when Seva's Awami League formed the government for the third consecutive term.
