Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu wants to hold direct talks with Lebanon quickly. The main goal of these talks will be to disarm Hezbollah and establish peaceful relations between the two countries.

In a statement, Netanyahu said that in light of repeated calls from Lebanon for direct talks, he has ordered the cabinet to hold talks quickly. According to him, this dialogue can pave the way for resolving long-standing tensions.

It is reported that a meeting in this regard may be held at the United States Department of State next week, where the current situation between Israel and Lebanon will be discussed.

An Israeli official said that there is currently no effective ceasefire in Lebanon. However, talks with the Lebanese government may begin very soon.

On the other hand, efforts are being made from the Lebanese side for a temporary ceasefire. A senior official from the country said that they have been taking initiatives for a ceasefire for the last 24 hours to pave the way for larger talks.

Lebanese Prime Minister Nawaf Salam is also expected to visit Washington next week, where he will meet with top US officials.

However, the proposal has already faced challenges. A Hezbollah lawmaker rejected the offer of direct talks, saying they would not accept any kind of direct dialogue with Israel.

Lebanese President Joseph Aoun said that a ceasefire must first be ensured to resolve the current crisis, before direct talks can begin.

It is worth noting that tensions between Israel and Hezbollah have escalated in the ongoing conflict. According to Lebanese data, about 1,700 people have been killed and more than 1 million people have been displaced in Israeli attacks so far. On the other hand, hundreds of Hezbollah members have also been killed.
