Amidst heightened tensions after threatening to 'destroy civilization' on Iran, US President Donald Trump has finally agreed to a temporary ceasefire. He has announced a two-week suspension of possible attacks on Iran.

In a post on his social media account Truth Social, Trump said that he has agreed to suspend bombing and military strikes on Iran for two weeks. He referred to this as a 'bilateral ceasefire'.

However, Trump has also added a condition for this ceasefire. He said that Iran must maintain normal international shipping through the Strait of Hormuz. Only if this condition is met will the ceasefire be effective.

Trump also said that a 10-point proposal has been received from Iran, which is being considered a viable basis for negotiations. According to him, most of the major obstacles in the long-standing dispute between the two countries have already been overcome.

He expressed hope that this two-week period would help reach a final agreement and pave the way for a solution to the long-term crisis.

It should be noted that tensions between the United States and Iran have reached a peak in recent times, especially around security issues centered on the Strait of Hormuz. In this situation, the announcement of a temporary ceasefire is being seen as a message of relief in the international community.
