Iran should ‘declare victory’ and end the war now: Javad Zarif

Former Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif has urged Iran to ‘declare victory’ and end the war amid the ongoing conflict. He believes that ending the conflict through a compromise is the most realistic way in the current situation.
Zarif made the proposal in an article published in the US-based magazine Foreign Affairs. There, he also presented a possible diplomatic outline to reduce tensions between Iran, the US and Israel.
According to Zarif, Iran could offer to reopen the strategically important Strait of Hormuz if it wants. In return, the country could demand restrictions on its nuclear program and the lifting of international sanctions – which could come up for new discussions in the current context.
He also said that he would adopt a mutual ‘non-aggression policy’ with the US. Zarif believes that such an agreement would reduce the risk of direct conflict between the two countries in the future.
He further proposed that economic relations between the two countries could be strengthened for the benefit of the peoples of both countries, which would be beneficial for both sides.
According to Zarif, if these initiatives are implemented, Iran will be able to reduce its security concerns to a great extent and focus more on the country's internal development and improving the living standards of its people. This will allow the country to move towards a stable and promising future.
