The US F-35 Lightning II stealth fighter jet has crashed in the air over Nevada. However, the pilot was able to avoid a major accident and survived with minor injuries, authorities said.
The crash occurred on Tuesday (March 31) in the controlled airspace of the Nevada Test and Training Range, located about 25 miles northeast of Indian Springs, near the city of Las Vegas. Since it is a protected military area, there was no damage to the surrounding population.
The Nellis Air Force Base Public Relations Department said that the pilot was able to eject quickly after the crash and safely exited. He is currently receiving treatment for minor injuries, but his life is out of danger.
The exact cause of the crash is not yet known. The authorities have already launched an investigation to investigate the matter. Emergency services arrived at the scene immediately after the accident and conducted rescue operations and brought the situation under control.
A US Air Force spokesperson said, “The safety of our personnel and the local population is our top priority.”
The F-35 Lightning II is one of the world’s most advanced fighter jets. It is used for air combat, surveillance and precision strikes by avoiding enemy radars through stealth technology.
