Amidst tensions in the Middle East, the country's defense authorities have announced that a ballistic missile and 10 drones have been shot down in the sky of Saudi Arabia.
According to the Saudi Defense Ministry, these attacks were carried out early Tuesday (March 31) targeting populated areas. However, the missiles and drones were destroyed midway through the powerful air defense system.
Ministry spokesman Major General Turki al-Maliki said that the downed ballistic missile was heading towards the eastern province. At the same time, 10 drones that entered different parts of the airspace were also successfully repelled.
According to civil defense sources, some of the debris of the destroyed drones fell on residential areas in the Al-Kharj area, causing some damage.
However, no party has officially claimed responsibility for the attack yet. Analysts believe that in the context of the ongoing regional conflict, there may be suspicions towards Iran-backed groups, although no confirmed information has been found in this regard.
Saudi authorities have said that their air defense systems are on high alert to ensure the country's security and are ready to deal with any threat.
