Amid the growing conflict in the Middle East, tensions have flared up again in Iraq. There have been major drone and rocket attacks targeting the US embassy in the capital Baghdad, further complicating the security situation across the region.
According to security sources, the attack was carried out with at least three drones and four rockets. One of the drones crashed directly inside the embassy compound. Thick black smoke was seen rising from the embassy area immediately after the explosion, indicating the severity of the situation.
Eyewitnesses said that during the attack, the air defense system was activated and another drone was destroyed midway. It is noteworthy that another rocket attack was also repelled earlier on the same day, which indicates that multiple attacks were planned.
According to international media reports, attacks on US installations in Iraq have increased in the context of the ongoing Iran-related conflict. The latest attack is being considered the most intense attack to date.
Meanwhile, airstrikes have also been reported to have targeted a Popular Mobilization Forces facility in the Jadriya area of Baghdad. Local sources reported that at least two people were killed.
According to analysts, these counterattacks are further destabilizing the situation in the Middle East. If this conflict between regional powers is not brought under control quickly, there is a growing risk that it will turn into a larger conflict.
