The statement noted that the completion of the election through a democratic process reflects the political awareness and participation of the people of Bangladesh. It extended congratulations to the victorious party, the BNP, and its chairman, Tarique Rahman.
The United States also expressed hope that the existing partnership between the two countries would be further strengthened in the future. The statement mentioned continued cooperation on regional stability, economic collaboration, and security issues.
The 13th National Parliamentary Election and a referendum were held on February 12. In the election, the BNP secured a majority and is now set to form the government.
Tarique Rahman recently returned to Bangladesh after spending 17 years in London. Six days after his return, his mother and former Prime Minister Begum Khaleda Zia passed away. Overcoming the period of mourning, the BNP chairman has now led his party to an electoral victory and is preparing to form the government.
