An Indian nurse working at Raffles Hospital in Singapore has been charged with molesting a male visitor. The court found her guilty and sentenced her to one year and two months in prison and two strokes of the cane.

Elipe Shiva Nagu, 34, molested a male visitor at the hospital in June. According to The Straits Times, she committed the crime on the pretext of “disinfecting” the victim. She was suspended from duty soon after the incident.

Deputy Public Prosecutor Eugene Phua said the victim had come to the hospital on North Bridge Road to visit her grandfather at around 7:30pm on June 18. While she was using the hospital toilet, Elipe Shiva Nagu entered the toilet and groped the victim with his hands on the pretext of ‘disinfecting’ her.

The victim was so shocked that she could not move and later returned to her grandfather’s bed. The incident was reported on June 21, and Elipe was arrested two days later.

On Friday, the court sentenced him to one year and two months in prison and two strokes of the cane. Other personal details of the victim, including her age, were not disclosed in the court documents.
