Trump: US President Donald Trump has postponed his planned meeting with Russian

President Vladimir Putin. He has made it clear that he does not want to waste time on any fruitless talks. The announcement has created a new perspective in international diplomacy amid the ongoing tension over the Ukraine war.
Trump said, “I do not want to waste time on pointless meetings. Such meetings without a realistic solution are just a waste of time.” According to him, if Russia does not take a specific position on stopping the fighting on the battlefield, then the meeting is pointless.
Earlier, a White House official had said that there are no plans for a Trump-Putin meeting in the near future. Although just a few days ago, Trump had announced the possibility of a face-to-face meeting with Putin in Budapest within two weeks.
Analysts say that the US and Russia have very different positions on the Ukraine ceasefire. The US is proposing to stop the war by maintaining the current battle lines, while Russia is demanding that Ukraine completely evacuate the eastern Donbas region. This fundamental dispute has effectively ended the prospect of a summit.
Trump has said he wants a ceasefire to take effect quickly and to stop the killing. “Where there is fighting, draw the line and go home,” he said. Russia has rejected the proposal, saying it is only a temporary solution, not a path to lasting peace.
Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov has made it clear that Russia has no interest in anything other than a long-term peace. They have set the conditions for that peace as recognition of Russian sovereignty over the Donbas and the disarmament of Ukrainian forces—which are completely unacceptable to Kiev and the West.
At the diplomatic level, the United States has also said that there is no need for further preparatory talks. Sources close to Trump say that the decision was made “to avoid a repeat of fruitless meetings” in the past.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has already said that he will never give up the areas of Donbas under Kiev’s control. According to him, these areas would become the focus of further attacks in the future if they fall into Russian hands.
Overall, the peace process has reached a stalemate. Trump's recent comments indicate that Washington sees no way to reach a new agreement for the time being.
