Israel has publicly threatened to kill Iran's Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei. At the same time, the country's Defense Minister Israel Katz has warned of new attacks on Iran.
In a statement to reporters during a visit to the Ramon Air Base in southern Israel on Sunday (July 27), he said,
"I want to send a clear message from here to the dictator Khamenei: If you continue to threaten Israel, our long hand will reach Tehran again, with greater force than before, and this time you will be the target personally."
The comments were published in Israel's influential daily Yedioth Ahronoth. However, there has been no official response from the Iranian government to Israel's threat so far.
Earlier, on June 13, Israel launched airstrikes on Iranian military and nuclear facilities, starting a 12-day war between the two countries. In response, Iran launched missile and drone strikes, and the United States bombed three Iranian nuclear facilities. Finally, on June 24, a temporary ceasefire brokered by the United States ended the conflict.
Analysts say the Israeli minister's public threat could further escalate tensions in the Middle East.
