Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian said that Iran is fully prepared against any possible military aggression by Israel. In a recent exclusive interview with Al Jazeera, he said that although there was a ceasefire after 12 days of war, Iran does not expect it to be permanent.
Pezeshkian said, “Israel has harmed us, we have also retaliated against them deeply. They tried to assassinate our high-ranking military and nuclear scientists, but failed.”
He also said that Iran will continue its nuclear program, which is completely peaceful and is being conducted under international law. In his words, “We do not want nuclear weapons. This is against our political, religious and humanitarian principles.”
However, he made it clear that Iran will not accept any threats or international pressure.
President Pezeshkian accused the United States of attacking an Iranian nuclear facility during the Israeli attack. In response, Iran retaliated by attacking the US base at Al Udeid in Qatar. However, he explained, “This attack was not aimed at Qatar. I called the Emir of Qatar and made it clear.”
He said, “We have no conflict with Qatar. We only hit the base from which we were attacked.”
He also confirmed that Iran is still engaged with the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) on the nuclear issue. He said that information about the damage after the attack will be reported to the IAEA soon.
Meanwhile, a new round of talks between Iran, France, Germany and the UK over its nuclear program is scheduled to take place in Turkey. Iran has said that it is interested in a diplomatic solution, but wants sanctions lifted as a condition.
At the end of the interview, President Pjeshkian emphasized,
“Our nuclear capability is not underground, it is in the brains of our scientists.”
