The United States has received information that Israel is preparing to attack Iran's nuclear facilities. Several US intelligence officials told CNN that despite diplomatic talks with Tehran, Israel's military preparations have come to the attention of US intelligence.

Officials said that it is not yet clear whether Israel has finally decided to attack. Washington is not even sure whether Israel will attack at all.

However, a senior US intelligence official said, "The possibility of Israel attacking Iran's nuclear facilities has increased significantly in recent months. If the US and Iran do not reach a uranium removal agreement, this possibility will increase even more."

It is known that the US intelligence agency has prepared this information based on multiple activities, including high-level Israeli military activities, private and government-level message exchanges, and air exercises. The air drills and air-to-air missile launches are seen as part of Israel's preparations.

However, intelligence officials say these steps may not be aimed at a direct attack, but rather as a tactic to pressure Iran diplomatically. The preparations may be aimed at getting Iran to back off some parts of its nuclear program.

CNN reached out to the National Security Council, the Israeli Prime Minister's Office and the Israeli embassy in Washington for comment.

A US intelligence source said Israel believes Iran's military capabilities are currently at their weakest in decades. Israel struck Iran's missile production center and air defense system last October. In addition, the US believes that economic sanctions, the loss of regional allies and internal political instability have further weakened Iran.

In this context, the US has started increased intelligence surveillance so that if Israel attacks, the US can provide support as needed.

However, a source close to the Trump administration said that unless Iran makes a major provocation, the United States will not directly participate in a potential Israeli attack right now.

Another US source said, “Israel will not be able to completely destroy Iran’s nuclear facilities without US help.”

However, an Israeli source claimed, “If Israel considers any agreement between the US and Iran to be a ‘bad deal’, they will be ready to attack without US help.”

Currently, negotiations between the US and Iran on the uranium enrichment issue are practically deadlocked. Washington’s message is that Iran should not enrich uranium to even 1 percent under the agreement.

US special envoy Steve Witkoff said in this regard, “We have made an offer to Iran that can provide them with a viable solution without disrespecting them.”

On the other hand, Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei said in a statement, “The US demand to stop uranium enrichment is a big mistake. I don’t think the talks on this issue will yield any results.”
