US President Donald Trump wants to pressure European countries to provide more weapons for Ukraine. The Trump administration is planning to force Europe to buy more weapons from the United States to increase the chances of peace talks in Ukraine, according to Reuters news agency.
While the United States is considering possible peace talks to end the war in Ukraine, European countries will be forced to buy more weapons first. Washington believes that this move will strengthen Kiev's position. Ukraine's military is currently losing ground in the east under Russian aggression, and they fear that the Trump administration may reduce aid to Ukraine.
In addition, Trump's Ukraine envoy, Lieutenant General (retd.) Keith Kellogg, will attend the Munich Security Conference in Germany this week, where arms sales will be discussed with European allies.
Meanwhile, US officials said the Trump administration is trying to recover billions of dollars spent on the Ukraine war and is trying to impose more responsibility on European countries.
Trump, however, promised to cut off all aid to Ukraine during the election campaign. However, according to his advisers, if peace talks are delayed, it may be necessary to continue military aid to Ukraine.
US officials are currently seeking to reach an agreement on Ukraine's mineral resources, through which Washington would have access to Ukraine's mineral resources and would agree to provide Ukraine with military aid in return.
Meanwhile, Russia claims that it is on the verge of severing relations with Washington.
