There is a threat of renewed war in the Gaza Strip. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has warned that if Hamas does not release prisoners, a new operation will be launched in Gaza. The announcement came after Hamas said that they would not release three Israeli prisoners next Saturday as promised. Hamas cited Israeli violations of the ceasefire agreement as the reason behind their decision.
In a post on X on Tuesday, Netanyahu said that if Hamas does not release the Israeli prisoners, a renewed attack on Gaza would be launched. He said, "The prisoners must be released by noon on Saturday." At the same time, he ordered the Israeli army to deploy forces around the Gaza Strip.
Although the ongoing ceasefire agreement in Gaza has been in effect since January 19, Hamas has complained that Israel has violated the main provisions. This has further complicated the prisoner swap. The release of three Israeli prisoners held in Gaza and the release of Palestinian prisoners were scheduled for Saturday, but Hamas has announced that it is postponing the release due to Israel’s breach of its promises.
Hamas spokesman Abu Obeida claimed that they were fulfilling their obligations, but that the prisoner swap was being suspended due to Israel’s breach of its promises.
In this situation, the future of the people of Gaza is once again uncertain.
