The entire country was plunged into darkness after a monkey ‘intruded’ into a power substation in Sri Lanka. The incident occurred yesterday, Sunday, at around 11:30 am local time.
According to local government officials, a monkey attacked a power substation located south of Colombo. This resulted in a power outage across the country. Authorities were unable to restore power supply even after more than three hours.
Sri Lanka’s Energy Minister Kumara Jayakody told reporters, ‘This is an unexpected incident, as the monkey came into contact with the power supply transformer, which caused an imbalance in the power supply system.’
He added, ‘Engineers have already started working to normalize the power supply, and the situation will be normal soon.’
The incident has caused an unusual disaster for Sri Lanka, but officials are hopeful that power supply will be restored quickly.
