Israel is torturing the Palestinians through indiscriminate and destructive attacks in Gaza. Former US diplomat Hala Rarit believes that the US's unconditional support for this attack will be a lifelong shame for outgoing Secretary of State Anthony Blinken.
Former US State Department official Hala Rarit resigned in April 2022 in protest of the US's support for Israel during the Gaza war. In a recent interview with Al Jazeera, she said that the US did not stop supplying weapons to Israel despite information about human rights violations in Gaza.
Rarit said, "They have deliberately violated US law. US law prohibits the transfer of weapons to human rights violators, yet the Biden administration has continued to supply weapons in violation of this ban."
Israel’s offensive in Gaza has killed 46,876 Palestinians so far. Hundreds of thousands of people are at risk of starvation due to food shortages and restrictions on aid distribution. Yet Blinken assured Congress that Israel was not blocking humanitarian aid.
Blinken was dubbed the “Secretary of State for Genocide” by activists during a speech in Washington, D.C. this week. He was also dogged by tough questions from reporters at his final press conference.
“History will judge Blinken for his role. His role in the Israeli atrocities in Gaza will haunt him for the rest of his life,” Rarit said.
