The law enforcement agencies of the country have arrested seven people in connection with the attack on the Bangladesh High Commission in Agartala, the northeastern state of Tripura. In addition, three Tripura police personnel have been suspended on charges of dereliction of duty.
The Tripura government on Tuesday suspended three police personnel and transferred a senior police officer in connection with the attack and vandalism of the Bangladesh High Commission in Agartala. In addition, law enforcement agencies have detained seven people for their involvement in the incident.
A senior Tripura police officer said, "The BJP government has ordered an investigation into Monday's incident. Sub-inspectors Dilu Jamatia, Debabrata Sinha and Joynal Hossain have been temporarily suspended in this incident. In addition, Assistant Commandant Kanti Nath Ghosh has been transferred." The official also said that action will be taken against four officers for dereliction of duty.
But security has been beefed up at the Bangladesh mission in Agartala after the attack on the diplomatic mission. Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha condemned the incident. He said that even though peaceful protests are allowed, such actions are unacceptable.
He also said that the Bangladesh Assistant High Commission in Agartala was vandalized on Monday in protest against the allegations of persecution of minorities in Bangladesh and the arrest of Chinmoy Krishna Das Brahmachari, spokesperson of the Sammilita Sanatani Jagran Jote.
