Ahead of the holy Eid-ul-Azha, the pressure of people heading home on the Dhaka-Tangail-Jamuna Bridge highway has started to increase. Along with this, vehicle traffic has also increased significantly. About 40,000 vehicles have crossed the Jamuna Bridge in the last 24 hours, through which tolls worth more than Tk 3 crore have been collected.

On Monday (May 25) morning, Syed Riaz Uddin, Executive Engineer of the Jamuna Bridge Site Office, confirmed this information to the media.

According to the bridge authority, a total of 39,919 vehicles have crossed the bridge from 12 am on Saturday to 12 am on Sunday. Of these, the number of vehicles heading to North Bengal was higher.

According to the information, 22,112 vehicles heading to North Bengal have used the bridge, from which a toll of about Tk 15.8 crore has been collected. On the other hand, 17,807 vehicles heading to Dhaka have collected about Tk 15.7 crore through the crossing.

Special arrangements have been made on both sides of the Jamuna Bridge to handle the increased traffic pressure on the occasion of Eid. Digital toll booths have been opened to ensure speedy movement of vehicles and separate booths have been arranged for motorcycles.

The bridge authorities said that necessary preparations have been made to ensure smooth travel of people heading home on Eid and to reduce traffic congestion. The concerned officials are working round the clock to monitor the situation.

It is worth noting that tolls have been collected regularly since the Jamuna Multipurpose Bridge was opened in 1998. Currently, an international organization is managing the toll management of the bridge.
