Dhaka Bank Managing Director (MD) Sheikh Mohammad Maruf has resigned citing personal reasons. He submitted his resignation to the bank authorities last Thursday (August 15).
According to bank sources, he resigned due to increased pressure within the bank after the recent change of government and disagreements with the board of directors. His decision has sparked discussions amid internal tensions within the bank.
Sheikh Mohammad Maruf joined Dhaka Bank as MD in October 2024. Earlier, he served as Additional Managing Director (AMD) at City Bank.
A member of the Dhaka Bank board of directors said on condition of anonymity, “We have received his resignation letter. A decision will be taken on the matter at the board meeting next Monday.”
Sheikh Mohammad Maruf was contacted about his resignation, but he did not answer the phone.
In the meantime, questions have arisen in the banking community - who is going to take over as the new managing director of Dhaka Bank.
