On Friday (September 20) morning, after visiting the market in Badda-Rampura area of the capital and talking to the buyers and sellers, it is known-

On September 15, the government fixed the price of chicken and eggs. Today, even after five days, no one in the market is accepting the price set by the government. As a result, the government guidelines on these two products are limited only on paper. Market people say that the government officials have decided a price 'sitting in the office', which has no match with the reality.

Eggs are being sold in the market at Tk 165 per dozen, which is Tk 23 more than the price set by the government. On the other hand, broiler chicken is being sold at Tk 175 per kg, which is again Tk 5 less than the fixed price. The government has set a price of broiler chicken at producer level of 168 91 paise, wholesale level at 172 61 paise and retail level at 179 taka 59 paise.

Golden chicken is being sold in the market for Rs 300, which was earlier Rs 280 per kg. However, the official price of golden chicken per kg has been fixed at 260 taka 78 paisa at the producer level, 264 taka 57 paisa at the wholesale level and 269 taka 64 paisa at the retail level. Also, in today's market, domestic breed of chicken is being sold at Tk 300 to Tk 350 per kg, which is said to have been sold at the same price earlier. However, no instructions have been given regarding the price of domestic chicken at the price set by the government.

Meanwhile, although there is no anger about the price of chicken in the market, there is widespread anger among the consumers about the price of eggs. They claim that a strong syndicate is still working in the egg market. Even if the price of eggs imported from the neighboring country India is 7 taka including the import cost, why will the eggs produced in Bangladesh be 14/15 taka per piece? How can the government set a price of 12 rupees per piece?

Regarding the price of eggs, a student named Tanjid Hasan said that after the government's new decision, the price of eggs has increased by Tk 10 to Tk 15 per dozen. Eggs which used to be sold at Tk 150-155 a dozen, are now being sold at Tk 165 to Tk 170. Meanwhile, broiler chicken was being sold at Tk 165-170 for a month, but the government has increased the price to Tk 180. So whose interests have been achieved by the government by setting the price?

He said that a few days ago, some eggs were brought from India to Bangladesh, and the price of each egg, including the cost of bringing, has fallen to Tk 7. Accordingly, the dozen of these eggs should not be more than 100 taka. We were thinking that when a new government comes, the market syndicate will be broken and a reasonable price will be set for everything, so far there is no reflection.

Another customer named Rafiq Mia regretted that for those like us who cannot eat fish and meat regularly, eggs were the only hope. Now I see that the price has started increasing day by day. The price of eggs which should be the highest price of 30/35 hali, is now 55 hali. Is there no one to see them?

However, traders always have one answer about the price of chicken and eggs in the market. They claim that the price of chicken feed is high in the country's market. Moreover, many chicken farms have been destroyed due to floods in some districts recently. This has reduced the supply of chickens and eggs in those areas.

A seller named Rafiq Mia said, I heard that the government has fixed the price of eggs and chicken, but when I went to buy it in the wholesale market, I saw that it has gone up. Marketers say there is a shortage of eggs in the market. I don't know why the crisis has suddenly arisen But if we have to buy at a higher price, then we have to sell a little more accordingly.

In response to the question why the price of Indian eggs is increasing even after the arrival of Indian eggs, this seller said that till now I have not seen any Indian eggs in the market. I heard it came, but I don't know where it came from. We are general sellers, we will sell eggs from any country if profit is 2/4 taka. But it is good for us if the price is low. If the price is high, people don't want to buy.

Mansoor Ali, a chicken seller, said that the price of broiler chicken is a little higher in the last few days. Last week also I sold 170 taka per kg, today 175 taka. There is a high demand for chicken in the market, but there is no corresponding supply. I heard that many farmers have suffered losses due to floods, due to which the pressure has come to the market.

Earlier on Sunday (September 15), the livestock department decided the price of chicken and eggs. Director General Dr. In a letter signed by Mohammad Reazul Haque, it is said that at the retail level, eggs have been fixed at Tk 11 87 paise, golden chicken at Tk 269 64 paise per kg and broiler chicken at Tk 179 59 paise per kg. Even in the letter, it is asked to take necessary measures to properly implement the fixed rational price of chicken (golden and broiler) and eggs (producer, wholesale and retail level) by 2024.

At the same time, to take action in this regard, apart from the director of all departmental livestock departments, Bangladesh Poultry Industry Association, Feed Industries Association of Bangladesh, Breeders Association of Bangladesh, World Poultry Science Association, Bangladesh Poultry Industries Central Council, Bangladesh Poultry Farm Protection National Council, Animal Health Companies Association of Bangladesh, a letter has been sent to the President of Bangladesh Agro Feed Ingredients Importers and Trading Association.
