Ed Sheeran Sings His First Bollywood Song at Shah Rukh Khan’s Request

Published: 06:40 4 November 2026
British singer-songwriter Ed Sheeran has lent his voice to the track "Tu Mil Jaaye" for the film *King*, following a special request from the "Badshah of Bollywood," Shah Rukh Khan. Released to coincide with Shah Rukh’s birthday, the song has already sparked significant buzz on social media.
Directed by Siddharth Anand, the track features vocals by Ed Sheeran, Arijit Singh, and Madhubanti Bagchi, with music composed by the duo Sachin-Jigar.
Ed Sheeran recently shared the story behind the song in a video posted on social media. The footage shows him in a recording studio, singing the Hindi portions of the track, interspersed with clips featuring Shah Rukh Khan and Deepika Padukone.
Recalling his first meeting with Shah Rukh, Sheeran shared that the actor had asked him to create a song for his upcoming film—a project that would mark his debut in Bollywood.
Sheeran noted that his bond with Shah Rukh has grown stronger since they first met, adding that he holds a great deal of affection for the actor.
During his visit to India last year, Sheeran spent time at Shah Rukh’s residence. At that time, there were also plans to feature Shah Rukh in a video for the song "Sapphire," alongside Arijit Singh. It was during this same visit that he was introduced to the music-directing duo, Sachin-Jigar.
Sheeran revealed that the process of writing and recording his parts for "Tu Mil Jaaye"—from the film *King*—began during that very visit to Shah Rukh’s home.
The British artist expressed his excitement about collaborating with Arijit Singh once again, sharing his joy at having some of his favorite people come together for a single song.
"Tu Mil Jaaye" was released on November 2, Shah Rukh Khan’s 61st birthday. Reports indicate that the song garnered nearly 60 million views across various platforms within the first 24 hours of its release. On YouTube alone, it surpassed 36.3 million views and received over 430,000 likes on its first day. With this success, the song "Tu Mil Jaaye" has surpassed the record for the highest number of views within the first 24 hours, previously held by the track "Zinda Banda" from Shah Rukh’s film Jawan.
Meanwhile, Shah Rukh’s highly anticipated action film King is scheduled for release on December 24. Alongside Shah Rukh, the film features Suhana Khan, Abhishek Bachchan, Jackie Shroff, Arshad Warsi, and Raghav Juyal. Rani Mukerji, Kareena Kapoor Khan, and Deepika Padukone are also expected to make special appearances.
