Attack on Salman Muqtadir’s Studio: BNP Blamed Amidst Conflicting Police Account

An attack and act of vandalism took place at content creator Salman Muqtadir’s ‘Brownfish’ studio near the capital’s ECB Chattar. Salman alleges that local BNP members carried out the attack because extortion demands were not met. However, police state that preliminary investigations point to a land dispute; no evidence of extortion or political involvement has been found.
The attack occurred around 10:30 PM on Saturday (September 26) within the project area of ​​New Guinea Properties. Police reported that, in addition to the studio, the project office and surrounding structures were also vandalized.
Salman was out of Dhaka at the time of the incident. Upon his return, he showed the damaged studio during a Facebook Live session. Addressing Home Minister Salahuddin Ahmed in a sarcastic tone, he remarked, "Great job!" He also alleged during the live stream that BNP members had carried out the attack. This allegation could not be independently verified.
An official from the studio claimed that between 100 and 150 people participated in the attack. He also alleged that some of the attackers were armed. There were further allegations that the staff members' mobile phones and wallets were taken.
Salman stated that shoots for approximately 30 to 40 clients had been scheduled at the studio. He could not immediately assess the extent of the financial loss but expressed his intention to console his colleagues and resume work.
Meanwhile, the Dhaka Metropolitan Police reported that two individuals were arrested at the scene, followed by the arrest of another person later. Police suspect the attack may have stemmed from a land dispute involving New Guinea Properties. The exact cause of the attack cannot be confirmed until the investigation is concluded.
