The Indian music world has lost one of its brightest stars. Legendary vocalist Asha Bhosle breathed her last while undergoing treatment at Mumbai's Breach Candy Hospital on Sunday (April 12). She was 92 years old at the time of her death. She was suffering from heart and respiratory complications and was admitted to the ICU after her physical condition deteriorated.

Born into a musical family, this artist started singing professionally at the age of just 9. She started her journey in films in the 1940s and established herself in Bollywood in the 1950s. Overcoming the shadow of her elder sister Lata Mangeshkar, she became a unique music icon in her own right, with love, pain, and excitement all found new heights in her voice.

Although she was known for her catchy and cabaret-style songs at the beginning of her career, she later showed her extraordinary versatility in the ghazals of the film 'Umrao Jaan'. Her voice still touches the hearts of listeners in these timeless songs like 'Dil Chij Kya Hai' or 'Mera Kuch Saman'. In her long musical career, she won seven Filmfare Awards and two National Film Awards, which bear recognition of her outstanding contribution.

There were many dramas in her personal life too. After her first marriage at a young age and later getting out of that relationship, she entered a new life with legendary music director Rahul Dev Burman in 1980. Their harmonious duo brought numerous popular songs to Indian music. She remained with music until the end of her life, and left behind a huge immortal treasure.

Asha Bhosle's death is not just the farewell of an artist, but the end of a golden era of Indian music. Thousands of songs sung in his voice will live on in the hearts of listeners for generations to come.
